CTC Tea

CTC tea is named after the method of processing black tea. When the black tea leaves are crushed, teared and curled by running them through several cylindrical rollers, is called CTC (cut, tear, curl). The sharp teeth on the rollers crush, tear and curl the fresh tea leaves and result in small and hard tea pellets. This method is quite different from the standard method adopted for manufacturing tea. In the standard method, the tea leaves are rolled into strips. Also called Mamri tea, CTC tea is ideal for tea-bags. This tea infuses its strong flavor into hot water quickly.  The CTC process was invented in the 1930s by Sir William McKercher in Assam, India. The process spread in the 1950s throughout India and Africa. Today, most black tea produced around the world uses the CTC method. The finished product results in tea well-suited for tea bags, is strongly flavored, and quick to infuse
